Over 2,000 crape myrtles outline McKinney’s public roadways with exceptional plantings along Virginia Parkway, Eldorado Parkway, U.S. Hwy. 380 and throughout the Stonebridge Ranch development. Working with the city, the Crape Myrtle Foundation will open the World Collection of Crape Myrtles, a planting that will include every range of crape myrtles in McKinney.

Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary features more than four miles of hiking trails, a two acre native garden, animals and indoor and outdoor permanent and temporary exhibits.  This is a wonderful way to spend the day in the open air to benefit from the stunning native plants, gentle environment and terrific exhibits and collections. 

Lavon Lake is proudly located on the East Fork of the Trinity River. The lake is just about 21,400 acres in size, the deepest section of the lake is almost 38 feet deep.  There are three launch sites located at Tickey Creek Park, Little Ridge Park and Lavonia Park.  Tickey Creek Park is a nice launch site and the lake provides some outstanding sailing. There is a community beach on the south region of the point and an isolated clearing of grass and trees on the east side of the point.  There are a couple of convenience stores and gas stations in this area as well.

Staying in a B and B on your trip is a fantastic approach to experience a little history and feel transported to another, less complicated time.  Inn owners are usually thankful of your patronage and are more than happy to inform you of the best deals in town. 

There are three public golf courses and four private golf courses in McKinney. The interest for golf is fairly evident in the wide-ranging landscape of McKinney City.  The Golf Club at McKinney has an 18 hole course with a challenging 6,980 yards of golf from the longest tees and has 50 tees driving range.  Eldorado Golf Course has 25 tees driving range and also an 18 hole course and has many nice golf vacation homes near by.  Eldorado Golf Course has a fitness and kids club with on-site baby sitting facility that accepts children ages 3 months to 12 years old.

McKinney, Texas is a great way to spend a long weekend.  The people are gracious, the accomodations are quality, and the town is full of beautiful parks and walking paths.
